EchoLink software: an alternative to iLink with a more user friendly interface!
As with any new technology, the voice-over-IP technology (VoIP) in use for amateur radio linking is moving rapidly. EchoLink is now available as a more robust alternative to the original iLink software. The following are statements extracted from the EchoLink website.
"EchoLink is software which allows Amateur Radio stations to communicate with one another over the Internet, using voice-over-IP (VoIP) technology. The program allows worldwide connections to be made between stations, from computer to station, or from computer to computer."
"EchoLink is
designed to interoperate fully with stations running iLINK
software. The popularity of iLINK is a testament to the
soundness of its basic design, the enthusiasm of its users, and
the ongoing support and dedication of its developers and
testers."
While iLink has different versions of
the software for the users and sysops, EchoLink only has a
single version which can be configured for either
purpose. Download it from the Echolink website and
give it a try.
